Seminar on “Reading culture in a digital age – Reality and solutions”
On the morning of August 28, the Conference of Reading Culture in the Digital Age – Situation and Solutions was held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism at Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics attracting much attention from related units and ministries.
The seminor was attended by representatives of the Leadership Committee of Culture, Education, Youth and Children of the National Assembly; leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; representatives of departments and units under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism; Ministry of Education and Training; Ministry of Information and Communications; representatives of public libraries, specialized libraries, publishers; experts, scientists, managers, representatives of library users, press agencies.
The library industry has seen many positive signs of development in the past time, details are as follows:
– In 2017, the total number of public libraries / reading rooms, basic bookcases is 20,768 libraries (up 15% compared to 2016).
– Commune library network is 3,257 libraries (up 20% compared to 2016) – Basic reading room is 16,727 (up 15% compared to 2016)
– The total number of readers to the library reached 29 million, an increase of 8% compared to 2016
– Total number of books and newspapers served by the library reached 55 million, an increase of 20% compared to 2016
– 2017 is also the year of breakthrough in the service of readers of the district library with 9.9 million readers and 20 million circulated books, increasing by 40% compared to 2016.
At the seminor, participants discussed the positive impacts, opportunities and challenges of information and communication technology to reading culture in general and library activities in particular; the status of electronic documents, digital documents and services for library use and solutions for developing reading culture in libraries; identify breakthrough solutions to develop reading culture, enhance electronic resources, digital materials, enhance online services in libraries, experience and effective operating models for development Reading culture … Through the workshop, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will collect data to contribute to building specific orientations and solutions in promoting the reading and operation culture library in a digital age.
